Drone Drama

Another story of our least favorite, not to be named, Los Angeles organization that “helps” with location permits. We were not allowed to use drones. We didn’t have a permit to use a drone, but we also had NO intention of using a drone. None of our producers had access to a drone; there were no shots that called for a drone. We were drone-less. Except that one of our unpaid PA’s had a drone. And during a break on set one day at a park that was doubling as our rest stop, she pulled it out and started fiddling with it. She and another PA had some tools and took it a part and were messing around with it. They never turned it on. It was on the ground next to their car. It was their break. But there was a monitor from the hated organization on set that day. A monitor who had spent the day doing literally nothing, except wander around and eat as much of our free food as he possibly could. And he tattled on us. He said we were were using a drone to film. So our producer, Jaime, got an irate call from a woman at this organization and an earful about how we were not allowed to use a drone. Now you may remember that Jaime is a fifth grade teacher. So she doesn’t take crap from people, and it had been a long day, so she gave that woman an earful right back. There may hae been cursing involved. She may have scared a few members of our crew who overheard the phone call. #indiefilms #producing
